If you want to help people, can keep calm in intense situations, and are ready for a challenge, join the Firefighting/Emergency Medical Rescue Academy. You can earn both an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification, a professional firefighter certification, plus train in the same settings and situations as local firefighters.

The Great Oaks Fire Academy offers 675 hours of EMS, fire, fire pumper, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescue from our nationally and internationally recognized faculty.
What you will learn: Fireground safety, building construction, confined space rescue, search and rescue, vehicle machinery extrication, basic patient care and treatment; airway management, trauma and medical patient, general pharmacology, soft tissue injuries, horizontal/vertical ventilation, fire suppression class A-D fire, incident management (NIMS), fire pumper operations, salvage and overhaul, rope rescue, forcible entry, fire safety inspection, interpersonal communications, ethics, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), hazardous materials operations and technician.

Enrollment Requirements:
- Watch these informational videos
- Go over the enrollment process
- Attend an information session (online or in-person)
- Fill out an online application on the student portal
- Read through the Fire Academy Packet and Prerequisite Forms
- Start the financial aid process
- Meet the required benchmarks for the WorkKeys® Test
- Have a physical done by a physician
- Complete a BCI/FBI background check
- Finish financial aid and sign all required papers
- Schedule an interview with the Fire Academy staff
- Attend a mandatory orientation
