WorkKeys Information
What are the WorkKeys?
The WorkKeys tests are a series of assessments designed by ACT to measure foundational skills required for success in the workplace and help measure the workplace skills that can affect job performance.
Applied Math
Measures critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving techniques for situations that occur in today’s workplace. While individuals may use calculators and conversion tables to help with the problems on the assessment, math skills are still needed to think them through.

Graphic Literacy
Measures skills that individuals use when they read and comprehend graphical materials (charts to graphs, diagrams to floor plans) to solve work-related problems.

Workplace Documents
Measures skills that individuals use when they read real workplace documents (messages, emails, letters, directions, signs, bulletins, policies, websites, contracts, and regulations) and use that information to make job-related decisions and solve problems.

Skilled Trades and Police Academy benchmarks
- Students must attain a combination total score of 12. Students must score a minimum of a 3 on one test, but must score higher on another test to achieve the required total score of 12 on all: Workplace Documents, Graphic Literacy, and Applied Math.
Heath Professions Academy, Fire Academy, EMT, and FF I & II benchmarks
- Applied Math -Level 4
- Graphic Literacy -Level 4
- Workplace Documents -Level 4 (Fire Academy, EMT and FF I & II require a Level 5)
*The score ranges from Level <3 to Level 7

- Associate degree (or higher) issued in the United States
- Previous completion of Great Oaks Adult Education course(s) that required WorkKeys Testing
- ASVAB of at least 35
- ACT composite score of at least 18
- SAT composite score of at least 970

- Ohio Means Jobs
- This site provides a practice test for each assessment. To save your scores, you will need to create a free account with OhioMeansJobs; otherwise, you can go through the practice tests anonymously.
- Union Prep
- This site provides study guides, practice lessons, and flashcards for each assessment.
- ACT WorkKeys Curriculum
- This site is operated by ACT (creator of the assessments). This site provides you with access to a customized learning plan tailored to your needs. It includes lessons, practice sessions, and quizzes. To get free access, please email testing@greatoaks.com.
- In-Person Classes
- Our Aspire program offers free in-person classes to increase your readiness for these assessments. Classes are offered in the evenings twice a week. Interested students must commit to a minimum of 12 hours of class time. For more information, please email Kim Barron at barronk@greatoaks.com or call 513-612-5830.
*Note: Students must take the WorkKeys test first to determine a baseline.

At the time of registration, you will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of $75.Refund Policy
- There are no refunds available for WorkKeys registration. If you need to change your test date and you contact us at 513.771.8881 at least 24 hours before your scheduled test appointment, we offer a 1-time transfer to a future test date. If we don’t hear from you at least 24 hours before your scheduled test date, we are unable to offer a transfer. This policy is in place out of respect for our students and our staff. By missing your test, you prevent someone else from being able to schedule into that time slot.

- You must arrive 15 minutes before test time.
- Testers must present a valid, Government Issued Photo Signature ID to test.
- After registering for a test time, refer to the confirmation email for specific testing instructions.
*Personal calculator – a calculator is built into the Applied Math Assessment; however, you may use your own handheld calculator.
If you use your own handheld calculator, you may only use it on the Applied Math Assessment, and you must show the calculator to the Test Administrator before using it
